WYOMING'S OWN WOOD-SUBSTITUTE PRODUCTS
Posted: November 2, 2006 - By Joe Megeath -
Heartland BioComposites, LLC, commemorated their startup with a gala grand opening at the company's Torrington facilities. The October 18 event featured both of Wyoming's senators. Senators Mike Enzie and Craig Thomas have been long time supporters of the project and were on hand to express their pleasure at the opening. Enzi told the crowd of over 200, "Its just so exciting to have an example like Heath [the founder and President of Heartland] to be able to show to the rest of the kids in and around the state of Wyoming and the rest of the world as he develops this and builds it into one of the big businesses in the United States."
Thomas noted with his usual wry humor, "My wife Susan is already pressing me to replace the balcony on our porch with this new Wyoming product."
Don't rush down to the local hardware store or home improvement center to buy the product too fast, though. The final contracts with distributors are being finalized. The products will be worth a short wait according to the research and testing results. Watch for their appearance at local retailers.
Heartland BioComposites products are fiber-polymer composites made from wheat straw and recycled plastic. Starting product lines include PrairiePicketTM (privacy fencing system), PrairieDeckTM (decking system) and PrairiePalletTM (shipping pallets). Wyoming recyclers are working with the company to insure a steady supply of appropriate number two plastic for the manufacturing process.
Heath Van Eaton, President, is a charter member of the WSWRA-sponsored Recycling Task Force and is working on a master's degree at the University of Wyoming. Van Eaton was a speaker at the August WSWRA conference in Cheyenne. He has been working on the wood-substitute technologies for over ten years.
Stay tuned to USED NEWS and our web site, WSWRA.COM, for additional information. Heartland is also listed in the resources section of WSWRA.COM.

2006 Recycle Awards Announced
Posted: September 9, 2006 - By Joe Megeath -
Winners of the 2006 WSWRA Recycling awards were announced August 23 by Craig McOmie. The banquet honoring the awardees is part of the annual WSWRA conference.
RECYCLER OF THE YEAR was given to Chelsea Kesselheim of Lander. She has provided the Lander community with consistent inspiration for recycling. Following many years of dedication to the diversion of waste from landfills she is currently supervising the steady removal from the waste stream of hundreds of tons of newspapers and magazines.
The diversion comes from recycling bins placed in the post office, emptied twice weekly by volunteers and taken to the CES Recycling Center located at the Lander Landfill. From there the materials are bailed and stored for transportation to an appropriate mill.
Chelsea Kesselheim is a founding member of the local volunteer group, Lander Recycles. In the early 1990s Chelsea donated her time at the volunteer-operated Recycling Center on Tweed Lane. Once the Recycling Center was taken over by Community Entry Services (CES), Chelsea turned her attention to providing recycling opportunities at the Lander Post Office for postal box customers.
Fremont County named her the 2005 Recycler of the Year for the county. - Back to TOP
